Heathrow Parking vs a Taxi from Slough: Which Is Cheaper in 2026?
Driving to Heathrow and parking, or taking a taxi from Slough? We compare the real costs of a week away, including drop-off charges, transfer buses and your time.
Slough is one of the closest towns to Heathrow, so many people assume driving and parking is the cheapest option. For most trips, it isn't. Here's how the costs compare.
The Cost of Parking at Heathrow
Heathrow parking prices depend on the car park, how far ahead you book and the time of year. Official long-stay and business car parks can cost well over £100 for a week in busy periods, and short-stay costs far more per day. Off-airport parking is cheaper but usually adds a transfer bus.
On top of that, add fuel, and the time spent finding your space and waiting for the transfer bus with your luggage.
The Cost of a Taxi from Slough
A fixed-fare taxi from Slough to Heathrow Terminal 5 starts from £18, and from £20 to Terminals 2, 3 and 4. The same fare applies on the way back. For a return trip that's from around £36–£40 in total, however long you're away.
| Park at Heathrow (1 week) | Taxi from Slough (return) | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | Often £70–£150+ | From £36–£40 |
| Door to terminal | No — transfer bus or walk | Yes |
| Longer trip = higher cost? | Yes, every extra day | No |
| Flight delay on return | You drive home tired | Driver tracks your flight |
Parking prices vary widely, so check Heathrow's own site for your dates.
What About Being Dropped Off by Family?
Heathrow charges a fee to drop off at the terminal forecourt, and a family lift means two return journeys for the driver. A taxi is often the kinder option.
When Parking Can Make Sense
For a one-night trip with a very early return, booked well in advance with a big discount, parking can work out similar. For most holidays of three nights or more, a taxi from Slough is cheaper and easier.
