Taxi with a Child Seat in Slough: The Rules and How to Book
Do children need a car seat in a taxi in the UK? The rules for licensed taxis and minicabs explained, plus how to book a taxi with a child or booster seat in Slough.
Travelling with young children is stressful enough without worrying about car seats. Here's what the law says about children in taxis and minicabs, and how to book a taxi with a child seat in Slough.
What the Law Says
In the UK, children normally have to use a suitable child car seat until they're 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first. There is an exception for licensed taxis and private hire vehicles. If the right child seat isn't available:
- Children under 3 can travel without a child seat, but only in a rear seat.
- Children aged 3 and over must wear an adult seat belt in a rear seat.
The exception exists for unplanned journeys. For a pre-booked trip, and especially a long one like an airport transfer, a proper child seat is the safer choice. The rules are set out on GOV.UK.
